About the Dragonfly Collection

The Muse in the Wings: Art, Resilience, and the Dragonfly
There is a specific kind of magic in hands that never stop creating.
Growing up, I watched my mom turn raw materials into beauty as easily as most people breathe. She is the kind of artist who refuses to be boxed in. If it’s creative, she’s mastered it: from the intricate loops of macramé and crochet to the precision of upholstery and woodworking. She’s sewn the very backpacks and handbags we carried, baked the tiered cakes for weddings and quinceañeras, and filled flea markets with the scent of her homemade pies and breads.
Whether she was working with oil paints, charcoal, or delicate parchment cards, her philosophy was always clear: Art is a labor of love, skill, and intention.
She’ll be the first to tell you that "flinging paint at a canvas" isn't the same as the hard-earned craft of a working artist. And while she’d skip a Picasso or Dalí exhibit any day (she thinks they’re a bit overrated!), she has always found her soul’s home in the arts—the light of Monet, the works of Marilyn Taus, and the fine, intentional lines of the masters.

A Path Not Taken, A Journey Honored
When she graduated high school, the door to study art in Paris was wide open. She could have walked through it, but she chose a different path instead. She had me.
Now, as she navigates a challenging medical journey, I wanted to bring a piece of that artistic world back to her. This collection is my tribute to the woman who chose me over Paris, and who has spent her life bringing beauty into the world with her own two hands.

Why the Dragonfly?
To the world, the dragonfly is a symbol of change. To my mom, it is a lifelong spark of inspiration. Whether they are darting over Minnesota lakes or hovering in her garden, these "winged jewels" have the power to instantly lift her spirits.
For this collection, I chose Édouard Manet’s 1875 ink drawing of a dragonfly. Its delicate, intentional lines feel like a nod to the sketches my mom has made in her own journals over the years.

Art You Can Carry
We’ve brought this public-domain masterpiece to life on pieces designed for your own journey:
  • The Swimwear: Our women’s suits feature a hidden gem—a line from Lord Tennyson’s poem The Dragonfly on the hip: "A living flash of light he flew."
  • The Gear: From Men’s Swim Boxers and Youth suits to our Crossbody and Utility bags, every item is designed to be as versatile as my mom’s own artistic repertoire.

Every Purchase Tells a Story
Right now, this collection features the greats that my mom admires, made accessible by museums around the world. But the dream doesn’t end here. Someday, I hope to feature my mom’s own original work—the charcoal, the ink, the soul of a woman who can do it all (except, perhaps, watercolors and story writing... for now!).
Every piece you carry is more than just a product. It is a direct contribution to my mom’s medical care and her "bucket list" dreams. It’s a way to help her navigate this season with the same grace and resilience as the dragonfly in flight.
P.S. While she’s mastered almost every medium, she’s still dodging watercolors and storytelling. Maybe once she checks a few items off her bucket list, we can finally get her to pick up a paintbrush for those!
